 Comments

Comment: Grell and Ruthmann (1991) note 'The second species [Treptoplax reptans], said to be found in the Gulf of Naples, was only seen once. There is some doubt that it really exists.' Tessler et al. (2022) note 'Unfortunately, the living [Treptoplax] reptans specimens from Monticelli (1893) died and have never been resampled in the field; the characteristics identified by Monticelli, however, have been doubted and this species is therefore currently unaccepted (Syed and Schierwater, 2002a; see also WoRMS Editorial Board, 2021), although it could be rare or extinct.'
