  Comment: Regarding the family name Mugiloididae, Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Life, 2004) states that its type genus, Mugiloides Lacepède 1803, "is evidently based on a mullet, family Mugilidae... This means that the family name Mugiloididae (or Mugiloidae) no longer is used for the fishes known as sandperches; the oldest family name available for them is the Pinguipedidae"
