Hutchins (1997:6) notes, 'Monacanthus (Paramonacanthus) knerii Steindachner, 1867, the type species of Laputa [...] is in fact a juvenile specimen of Meuschenia freycineti (Quoy and Gaimard, 1824) [...] Thus Laputa must be relegated to the synonymy of Meuschenia (Whitley, 1929);' This is also the type species of the junior homonym Monacanthus (Paramonacanthus) Steindachner 1867 (nec Bleeker 1865), which Laputa Whitley, 1930 replaced
