  Comment: Comments: Corbet (1988:127) retained the genus Neotetracus for this species, as did Mein and Ginsburg (1997). In a comparative genetic study of six hedgehog genera by Bannikova et al. (2002), Neotetracus (and Hylomys) formed the most basal taxa in the dendrograms
