  Comment: Eschmeyer (personal communication, May 2004) says "There is no genus Leptocephalus. See [Fishes of the Western North Atlantic] p. 659. It was used for larvae of a number of families; and it was suppressed by the ICZN. It is still in use, but it does not count as a genus [...] As long as the larvae can't be identified to a genus, they need to remain in Leptocephalus." Where ITIS uses the species names they will be left as "incertae sedis" within the families noted in Eschmeyer's online Catalog of Fishes
