  Comment: Fricke (1999) lists Serranus telfairii Bennett, 1831 (as telfairi and with year as 1832) as a junior synonym of Pristipomoides argyrogrammicus (Valenciennes in Cuvier and Valenciennes, 1832). The date of publiction of Bennett has since been corrected to 1831, and since name has not been used as valid since publication Fricke (pers. comm) considers it to be a nomen oblitum  
    Shimose et al. (2020) note that although the type specimen has been lost, the original description of the body color seems closer to that of Pristipomoides zonatus (Valenciennes in Cuvier and Valenciennes, 1830)
