 Comments

Comment: Palaemon sulcatus Henderson & Matthai (1910: 289) is a junior primary homonym of Palaemon sulcatus Olivier (1811: 661). Olivier's senior name has apparently been treated as a junior synonym of Penaeus kerathurus (Forskål, 1775) since at least the late 1800s, and does not appear (from a brief search) to have been used as the name of a recognized species after 1899. If that is the case, it may be that Olivier's senior name could be treated as a 'nomen oblitum' (forgotten name), and the later 1910 name could then be considered a 'nomen protectum' (ICZN Art. 23.9). This would allow the continued current usage of the junior name as the species Macrobrachium sulcatus (Henderson & Matthai, 1910), although the case should also be submitted to the Commission for a ruling (Art. 23.9.5)
