 Comments

Comment: Although the name 'Echiurus chilensis' has been attributed to Max Müller (1852), he only referred to 'Echiuro Chilensi' of the Berlin Museum (a specimen label annotation?) in contrast to his new species Thalassema gigas. This did not make the attributed name available, and it wasn't available until Diesing published it in 1859, using Müller's material (attributing it to Müller), so Diesing must be given the authorship. 'Combinations' such as Spiroctetor chilensis have appeared in the literature, mis-attributed to Müller, but are in error, and should be attributed to Diesing, who made the name available, not to Müller
