  Comment: Cockerell (1897) originally applied the name Centris hoffmanseggiae to male and female specimens. Fox (1899) later determined that the females represented a different species, and named the new species Centris cockerellii. Friese (1901:341) reproduced Fox's name & description, with attribution, but spelled the epithet 'cockerelli' (one -i, vs. Fox's two -ii) without comment. Many workers treat -ii as an incorrect original spelling, although that may be an incorrect interpretation under the ICZN. Multiple spelling variants have been used for these names
