According to Scoble (1999:455), the epithet was given in the original description (Can. Ent. 71 (12):249, which was 'Mailed Saturday, December 30th, 1939') 'as albomonata, an incorrect original spelling, corrected by McDunnough, 1940 [Can. Ent.] 72 (1):20,' which was 'Mailed Wednesday, January 31st, 1940.' This claim may or may not qualify under ICZN Art. 32.5.1 (see especially Art. 32.5.1.1, which requires that the correction be published in the same volume, though this was not). It could be argued that the type locality (White Mountains, Arizona), though not noted as the basis of the epithet, is sufficient by itself to consider the epithet an incorrect original spelling, and thus accept the subsequent emendation as justified |
