  Comment: In the 1857 Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia (vol. 9, p.84, for the March 31 meeting), Lea spelled the name only as 'Unio Texasiensis.' In a later but more detailed work in 1860, Lea spelled the name only as 'Unio Texasensis,' without comment. Turgeon et al. (1998: 37, 185) note the two spellings and retain the original spelling, suggesting the later spelling is an unjustified emendation
