  Comment: Recent authors (Lee 2006; Williams et al. 2008:711) have argued for treating the name Toxolasma Rafinesque 1831 as a neuter gender word. The correct form for this combination would be Toxolasma texasense or T. texasiense (the original combination was given as Unio texasiensis, noting the extra -i-). Turgeon et al. (1998:185), prior to the gender correction, note the emendation from texasiensis to texasensis but reject it, suggesting it was an unjustified emendation
