  Comment: Subfamily Tibiceninae Van Duzee 1916 (and coordinate family-group names with same authorship) was based on the generic name Tibicen, not on Tibicina, which was the type genus for a different family-group name established by Distant in 1905. These are not homonymous even though the stem for both names should have been identical (Tibicin-) since the former was originally misspelled Tibicenidae and is in prevailing usage with that spelling. This is now placed in subfamily Cicadinae, where it is junior to Cicadinae & Cryptotympanini
