  Comment: Melecta candiae (TSN 767195) was published by Strand on page 166 of "Apidae von Creta" as "Melecta sp. (Candiae Strand n. ad int.)" or 'ad interim' meaning: "in the meantime or provisionally". Lieftink (1980) states: "M. candiae is one of the numerous annoying, objectionably proposed names for a unrecognizable Strandian insect. In the writer's opinion, names like this..., though unfortunately still considered available by the ICZN in case of an eventual validation, are best rejected."
