  Comment: The date of publication for Dendrohyrax dorsalis sylvestris, originally Hyrax sylvestris, seems to be unclear. Temminck's work lists '1853' on the title page, and while some works use 1853 for names coined therein (e.g., Wilson & Reeder, eds., 2005), others use 1855 (e.g., Jones, 1978). D. dorsalis apparently dates from 1854 (no earlier than 23 May). Pending clarification of the priority of these works, ITIS is for the moment following the years as given by Jones (1978) for these taxa, which supports recent usage
