  Comment: While the family name Sphaeriidae Erichson 1845 was rendered invalid by the suppression of the type genus in ICZN Opinion 1331 (September 1985), the genus name was subsequently conserved and the family name stem (and thus spelling) was changed (to remove homonymy with the bivalve family Sphaeriidae Deshayes 1854) by Opinion 1957 (September 2000)
