  Comment: All specimens that Edwin Linton identified as Echinorhynchus pristis in 1892 were incorrectly named, conflated with a European genus, including putative subspecies E. pristis tenuicornis, which is fundamentally different from Echinorhynchus (later Rhadinorhynchus) pristis and cannot be regarded as a variety of that species; in addition, the original material on which Linton based his description is unavailable for reexamination (van Cleave, 1947)
