Comm. Zool. Nomencl., 10: 373. Treated as the valid name for the Northern Dusky Salamander (according to Pyron and Beamer, 2020, Zootaxa, 4838: 235) by most authors starting with Baird, 1850 "1849", J. Acad. Nat. Sci.
