  Comment: Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2003) notes that "The original spelling was nawaga [in the title only], that spelling should be used unless current usage is maintained." His usage notes suggest that that 'original' spelling has not been used in recent literature, whereas navaga has been in use in a number of recent works. The originally published name is given by Eschmeyer as Gadus callarias var. nawaga Koelreuter 1770
