(2001) list Halieutichthys caribbaeus Garman 1896 as valid, without comment (p. 42), Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2003) lists no conclusion other than that it belongs in Halieutichthys (i.e., the status is uncertain according to the literature he has reviewed)
