 Comments

Comment: Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2004) notes that Ophisurus semicinctus Richardson 1848 is "Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Ophisurus semicinctus Lay & Bennett 1839; however if both species names have not been considered congeneric after 1899, current usage can be maintained but the case should be referred to the Commission for a ruling (Art. 23.9.5)." He follows current authors in considering this valid as Pisodonophis semicinctus (Richardson 1848)
