 Comments

Comment: 'Lumping Nymphaea caerulea and N. capensis into N. nouchali is a vast oversimplification, done by Verdcourt for the Flora of Tropical East Africa based entirely on herbarium study. I accept all three of these as distinct species. Certainly the Asian N. nouchali is in need of in-depth study to determine its elements in tropical Asia and whether or not it has any presence in Africa and Madagascar, but these other two species would not be its closest relatives there, in any case.' (John Wiersema, pers. comm. 9/Sept/2024)
