  Comment: Although Bonaparte (1850:44) seems to cite 'Strix peli Temm.' as the original combination, per Sherborn's Index Animalium (1929:4820) that is a manuscript name, and so unavailable. As Bonaparte was clearly treating it as the sole member of the new genus Scotopelia Bonaparte 1850, the original combination is Scotopelia peli. See also Dickinson & Remsen, eds.
