  Comment: Anthophora dalmatiensis Strand, 1917 is a possible junior synonym of Anthophora canescens Brullé, 1832 (TSN 762867)  
    Baker (1997) states "a general consensus of opinion among entomologists that [Gistel's] work should not be recognized...; possibly it was following their example that Dalla Torre ignored Gistel's Hymenoptera in his Catalogus Hymenopterorum (1892-1902)" and that Anthophora subterraneus Gistel, 1851 (the same insect likely being described again by Gistel in 1857) is "a junior primary homonym of Anthophora subterranea Germar, 1826.= Anthophora dalmatiensis Strand, 1917[sic], replacement name.
