  Comment: 'Thomas [1901] restricted porcellus Linnaeus to include only the domestic form. Subsequently, the International Commission (ICZN 2003) conserved the name C. porcellus for the domestic form, although incorrectly assuming C. aperea to be the wild progenitor. The domesticated form is included here as a species to maintain taxonomic stability, although it is clear that it is derived from C. tschudii' (Patton et al., 2015)
