 Comments

Comment: Bombus pleuralis Nylander, 1848 is a probable senior synonym of Bombus flavifrons (Paul Williams, pers. comm. Dec. 2006)
Williams (page 126, 1998) considered the lectotype of B. pleuralis as an individual of the dark form of B. flavifrons Cresson, 1864 and also stated: "Although B. pleuralis is the oldest available name for the present interpretation for this species, the name B. flavifrons has been in common use for the species since 1947...in the interests of stability (ICZN, 1985: Article 23b), an application [should] be made to ICZN to...suppress the unused senior synonym (ICZN, 1985: Article 79)"
