 Comments

Comment: Cimex lunatus was used for two separate species in Fabricius 1787: on page 289, species #107 (this species, ITIS TSN 108425), is now in Coreidae under Phthia lunata (Fabricius, 1787), while on page 302, species # 237 (ITIS TSN 1137342), is now in Largidae under Acinocoris lunaris (Gmelin, 1790). These were primary homonyms with identical priority. Gmelin's name change to Cimex lunaris (for what is now in Largidae), without comment, is taken to be a replacement or substitute name, thus establishing priority for the other Fabricius name, in Coreidae. Unfortunately, both species have gone by Cimex lunatus and Lygaeus lunatus in the older literature
