  Comment: According to a careful nomenclatural analysis by Olson and Suárez (2008), Gymnoglaux is a junior synonym of Gymnasio, as both are based on the same species name (Strix nudipes Daudin 1800), contrary to a number of prior works. Since that species is now recognized as the Puerto Rican Screech Owl, Megascops nudipes (Daudin 1800), both generic names are junior synonyms of Megascops Kaup 1848. They then published a new genus, Margarobyas, for the Cuban species
