 Comments

Comment: "Apolectidae" from NODC is apparently based on the carangid genus Apolectus Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1832, which according to Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2005) is "Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Apolectus Bennett 1831 in fishes" [Scombridae]. Eschmeyer treats the type genus as a synonym of Parastromateus Bleeker 1864 in the Carangidae
Nelson (1984) recognized family Apolectidae as containing a single species, Apolectus (=Formio) niger (Witzell, 1977), but noted "Some authors place this species in the Carangidae"; in later editions he placed the species in Carangidae himself. The cited author is apparently in error as Eschmeyer (2013) cites Apoletcus niger and Formio niger (Bloch, 1795), = Parastromateus niger (Bloch, 1795) (TSN 168785)
