 Comments

Comment: Alabama River System, eastern Gulf Coastal Plain, USA
Conrad's 1854 description of Unio altum was incomplete, omitting information on the umbo cavity, an important charcteristic in identification of Mobile Basin Pleurobema; type locality has been given variously by different authors; the type specimen has been lost; therefore Unio altum must be considered a nomen dubium (Williams, Bogan and Garner, 2008)
