  Comment: Although the authorship & year for Varanidae has not been determined by ITIS, it appears to have been in use at least by Bonaparte in 1831 (p.75, https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/33059968 ), although some sources cite Bonaparte (1831) for 'Varanina' as a first use. Others suggest it should be given as Varanidae Hardwicke & Gray, 1824
