  Comment: With the merger of Cyanocompsa into Passerina (see Paytner and Storer, 1970, p. 237), Passerina cyanea (Linnaeus, 1776), originally described as Tangara cyanea Linnaeus, 1776, the Indigo Bunting, becomes a secondary junior homonym of Cyanocompsa cyanea (Linnaeus, 1776), originally described as Loxia cyanea Linnaeus, 1776, the Ultramarine Grosbeak. The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature ruled to suppress Loxia cyanea Linnaeus, 1776 for the purposes of the Law of Priority and Law of Homonymy, and the next oldest name available for the Ultramarine Grosbeak, Lichtenstein's Fringilla brissonii, was added in the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology  
    Linnaeus specified the type locality of Angola in error. Todd (1923) substituted Bahia on the eastern coast of Brazil as the corrected type-locality for Loxia cyanea
