 Comments

Comment: ChiloBase 2.0 lists Vulcanbius with authorship of Chamberlin (1943:28), and refers to Jeekel (2005:34) for comments on validation of the name. Jeekel attributes the name to Chamberlin (1942:20) and indicates it was validated by combined generic specific diagnosis, noting also that the same author provided a generic diagnosis and fixed type species in a later work (1944:201). The species V. pedrigalus is assigned authorship of Chamberlin (1942:20) in ChiloBase (note that its availability is unaffected by the genus issues, per 1999 ICZN Art. 11.9.3.1). The 1942 work coins the new species name without in any way indicating that the genus is also new, which fails to meet the criteria for availability of genus-group names through combined description of genus & species (Art. 13.4). The 1943 work only mentions the genus in a generic key, and doesn't mention any species, so it fails to meet the criteria of availability too (Arts. 13.3, 68.3). The 1944 work appears to fulfill the requirements for availability for the genus, so its authorship should reflect that work
