 Comments

Comment: The four species placed in Chirocephalopsis by Daday (1910) when it was originally published (grubii, rostratus, claviger, and birostratus) are all accounted for in the genus Eubranchipus in Belk & Brtek (1995), where they are placed in the subgenera Siphonophanes or Drepanosurus, though it is also noted that "Brtek considers all three to be separate valid genera as characterized by Brtek (1966)." For the moment, ITIS has delayed treating either Siphonophanes or Drepanosurus, so Chirocephalopsis is for now retained in the syonymy of Eubranchipus. When these two genera/subgenera are taken up in ITIS, Chirocephalopsis will need to be placed into synonymy under whichever genus-level name retains the type species
