  Comment: There is no comment on validity under the original name, Capriscus (Leiurus) macrophthalmus, in Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2015); Matsuura 2015 only lists Abalistes filamentosus and A. stellatus in the genus. Matsuura (pers. comm. August 2017) examined the Russell plate originally referenced by Swainson, and concludes it 'clearly shows that is Abalistes stellatus, not A. filamentosus'
