  Comment: Concerning North American records that are referrable to another species, Pelham (2008:428) notes of Staphylus azteca (Scudder, 1872), "Single individual of this species was reported from Texas by H. Freeman (1977), but was later identified as Staphylus ceos (W. H. Edwards, 1882) by A. Warren, in: Opler and A. Warren (2002: 46); not Staphylus mazans (Reakirt, [1867]) as reported by Cassie et al. (2001: 31)"  
    The Checklist of North American Butterflies, 2nd Edition (2001) lists this as a "Neotropical species dubiously reported to have occurred naturally in the United States"
