  Comment: Turgeon et al. (1998) note that "type material of [Argopecten "circularis" (G. B. Sowerby I, 1835)] proved to be a mislabeled specimen of the Atlantic A. irradians concenticus." The name A. circularis was misapplied in the prior edition of that volume, and in the 1998 edition they instead used the name A. ventricosus (Sowerby 1842) for the intended taxon
