  Comment: Although some authors have synonymized Acanthorhodeus macropterus Bleeker 1971 under Acanthorhodeus asmussii (Dybowski 1872), it is clearly the senior name. Given the confusion on the issue, Eschmeyer (personal communication, 17-Sep-2005) advises to treat macropterus as valid in the genus Acheilognathus, but more work is apparently needed
