  Comment: Cleisthenes pinetorum Jordan & Starks, 1904 is the type species of the genus Cleisthenes Jordan & Starks, 1904. Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2014) treats Cleisthenes as valid, with the species Cleisthenes herzensteini (Schmidt, 1904), but places pinetorum as valid in Hippoglossoides. This would automatically make Cleisthenes a synonym of Hippoglossoides, and leave herzensteini without a valid genus. Pending further analyses, ITIS is leaving C. pinetorum in its original genus
