 Comments

Comment: Van Cleave (1924) says of Echinorhynchus paucihamatum Leidy, 1851 'After a thorough study of the descriptions given by Leidy, I have been unable to ascribe either of these specific names with certainty to any known species. In each instance the description is so imperfect, so lacking in specific characters, or so inaccurate in the data presented that the names must of necessity be considered species inquirendae'
The ICZN ruled that generic names ending in -rhynchus are masculine and so following specific epithets must also be masculine; Echinorhynchus paucihamatus and not E. paucihamatum is correct (Golvan, 1994)
