 Comments

Comment: Ghahari et al. (2013:208) list Coranus lateralis Jakovlev, 1879 (which is sometimes mis-dated as 1883) as a 'nomen oblitum' in synonymy under Coranus tuberculifer Reuter, 1881. Unfortunately, it does not qualify for this status under ICZN (1999) Art. 23.9.1.1, since it has been used as a valid name since 1899 (see Aukema & Rieger 1996:233 as one case, and it lists others). Apparently, due to its wide use, it is considered important to maintain the use of the name C. tuberculifer for that species even though the senior C. lateralis is considered to be a color form of it. An application to the Commission (Art. 23.9.3) appears to be the only valid way to maintain current usage in this matter, but it is not clear whether this will be pursued
