  Comment: Noting that herbaria speciments under these names are indistinguishable, A.R. Smith (2005 FNA v5) treats Plumbago scandens L. as a synonym of P. zeylanica L., even though they previously were treated as distinct (for Old World and New World specimens, respectively). By way of explanation, Smith quites John Edmonston as saying he believes this 'could be a classic case of New World and Old World taxonomists each doing their own thing'
